At the quarterly meeting of the Missouri Advisory Council on Historic Preservation held August 11, 2006 in Saint Joseph, the nomination for the Alois Herbert Double House, aka Bohot Folk Art House, 620 South 10th Street was unanimoulsy approved by the council. It should be added to the register within a few months. This Greek Revival double house (modernly called a "duplex") was built in 1851 by a Bavarian boot & shoe maker. The folk art embellishments were added between 1969-2003 by local mason Bobby G. Bohot. The City ordered it demolished in 2003, but with help from some city officials, Bryan & Penelope Kress were able to buy the property from Mr. Bohot and stop the demolition process. Mr. Bohot passed away shortly after.
