Heritage Action Adopts
Mount Mora's Mausoleum Row
Following what "We Believe," at our July monthly meeting, Heritage Action voted to formally adopt Mausoleum Row at Mount Mora Cemetery. Our task is a rewarding one: care-take the vegetation in, on, and around the row.
Due to lack of funding, coupled with the desecration last fall, the Historic Cemetery needs the community’s help maintaining the grounds while it gets back on financial track. The cemetery is mowed at least four times during the summer, so it is not overrun with growth. That makes the task easier to take on because it is simply maintaining what is being done as well as enhancing it. Members Sarah Hochschwender and Penelope Kress have already spent time mowing, weed-eating, sweeping, cleaning-up, and spraying. They also planted asparagus fern donated by Member Carol Almanza at the Toothaker-Schroer Mausoleum (see photo below).
The gratification is instant and much more fun than cleaning-out a nasty, abandoned house! Please contact Penelope at pjkress@yahoo.com if you are interested in helping.
In addition, if you know of other organizations or individuals who would like to adopt a section of the cemetery, please have them contact Sharon Kosek at sharongkosek@hotmail.com or Suzanne Lehr at 816-233-5865.
Finally, guided tours of the cemetery are available. Call 816-232-8471 to arrange one today!
